About This Spot

Down a quiet side road in San Juan, Siquijor, Need A Break Cafeteria unfolds like a heartfelt pause in the morning rush. The small eatery carries the warmth of a longtime local gathering spot — unpretentious and calm, where the pace slows just enough to savor simple pleasures and meaningful exchanges. From the moment you step inside, the space feels like stepping into a friend’s kitchen, where familiarity and quiet care shape every interaction.

Here, the hum of the community is present but gentle — the clink of plates, the soft murmur of conversation, and the occasional burst of laughter shared between guests and the hosts, Nitz and Ronie. Their kindness and genuine openness weave into the fabric of the place, creating an atmosphere of quiet generosity that lingers softly after you've left.

The food at Need A Break isn’t about showmanship — it’s sincere comfort crafted with thoughtful attention. Breakfasts and brunches evoke a warm, home-style feeling, set against the backdrop of Filipino and Spanish influences that hint at the island’s stories and flavors. Each plate arrives with generous portions, simple yet satisfying — like the hearty omelettes or the comforting burgers, accompanied by freshly baked bread that feels like it was made with care just for you.

What makes this spot truly special is the way it balances nourishment of body with care for community. Nitz and Ronie’s kindness extends beyond the walls of their cafeteria, as they actively support local causes and care for the island’s stray animals with the same warmth found in their hospitality. This small act of generosity seeps into the room, transforming a meal into a shared moment of connection and kindness.

Finding Need A Break Cafeteria may take a bit of gentle exploration — turning onto a narrow lane growing quieter as you go — but arriving here is like discovering a hidden chapter in the island’s story. For travelers and locals alike, it’s a sincere reminder that the best experiences often come from places where the food comes from the heart, and the people behind it feel like old friends.

Thank you Nitz and Ronie for your hospitality. The food is quite simple but very well made and truly delicious. The best breakfast we’ve had in Siquijor AND to a good price. Nitz and Ronie do great charity work for all inhabitants of Siquijor, both the people and the animals. Me and my husband made a small donation for their work with the stray dogs, I would encourage others to do so as well. Nitz and Ronie are doing great work by giving medication and food to dogs in need. Thank you again, best wishes from Sandra and Max Rehnberg

First off, the owners are amazing, so nice and welcoming! Felt like home right away. Love the local Filipino vibes, so many dishes to choose from and all the classic brekkies I was craving. Big portions, cheap prices, seriously, what a gem

If I could give this place a 10 I would. The couple who run it are some of the friendliest people I have ever met. Their food is delicious, definitely recommend the banana pancakes! They do a lot of work with the local stray dog population, feeding them and treating them with medicine. I can't say enough about just how kind and giving they are. To get to it you need to turn down a small road, a car won't fit so you need to park on the street and take a short walk if you have a car, mopeds and bikes won't have an issue. Just follow the flags.

We were up and ready for our day and on the hunt for some breakfast when we found this great little spot just off the main road. The place is ran by Nancy and Ronnie who could easily be two of the friendliest humans on the planet. They are two legends who didn’t stop smiling. Besides the service, the food was really good. Had a Spanish omelette with some sides of bacon and a Hungarian sausage. We were intrigued about the history of the Hungarian sausage being available on such a small island in the Philippines and Nancy enlightened us in the history of the Hungarian sausage. I don’t need to tell you that the sausage also tasted great. The portion size was big and each dish came with some fresh bread that Nancy had baked that morning. It was delicious. I had a brewed black coffee to drink and as a bit of a coffee snob I honestly wasn’t expecting anything too fancy, but the coffee they whipped up was superb. Taste was so good. Would recommend Need A Break cafeteria to anyone looking for a delicious value for money breakfast in a cute little setting in Siquijor.

Really nice place. The breakfast was tasty, the restaurant has real local Filipino vibes and the owners are so lovely! We enjoyed our time a lot and had nice conversations. If we would have found this place earlier it would have been our go-to-place for breakfast. Salamat!

We came here for breakfast and it was superb! Food was delicious, good portions size and the owners were super friendly. I had Tocilog and my girlfriend had the banana pancakes which was 10/10. It felt like a home cooked meal :)
